Elf on the Shelf

Halloween is just barely passed and already my mind is exploding with ideas for the Holidays… Where will I take the kids?  What will we do together?  How can I get across the REAL reason for the season?  My littles are at great ages where we can really start to do some great things…  Some of these items are easy to do on your own, some you may want to read my review on.  Make sure to come back and check often as this page will be changing frequently!

Obviously this is going to be a series of posts, otherwise it would get way too long (but I will link them all here for you)… In my ramblings you may find an idea, event, or project that you would like to do with your little ones.  Please, beg, borrow and steal (doesn’t really count because I am giving you permission).  Need a template?  Email or leave a message on the thread and I will get it to you.  I know that all of this is super time consuming (I do it) and not everyone has the time.  Let me help you :o).

Pretty much everything I do centers around my Elf on the Shelf “Marvin.”  Although I think that the clever little jokes and situations that are so popular on Pinterest are cute, and I admire those with the creativity to come up with such ideas, I personally feel that it rewards and shows the kids that being mischievous or sneaky is ok.  My reasoning?  1.  It counteracts what I think the season is about which is giving, helping others, and family. 2.  It gives my kids permission to make messes or play tricks, sends the message that these things are cute, acceptable.  In my house it is not.

Instead, “Marvin” is truly Santa’s Helper.  He brings messages from the big man himself.  Each message reminds the kids to be KIND.  Some messages are reminders, some come with tasks, others with gifts or “secret missions” to complete (they LOVE these).  Every year these messages come on a different letterhead (which I download from the internet).  I found this year’s free download here:  SANTA LETTERHEAD 2014.

  1. I work with the Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt NY. We are working on our 66th annual Autumn Festival (I know, hard to believe). 2015 is the sisters 125th Anniversary so we want to make this Festival bigger and brighter than ever. We are now looking for vendors. Would you be able to help us get the word out about our search for vendors and then also about our event which will be held on September 27 2015?
