DIGGERLAND: Buckets of Fun for Everyone!

Posted on May 23, 2017 by Ashley Carmichael Posted in Contests, RNYM Savings!, Uncategorized .

Diggerland Logo

2 years ago when we first visited Diggerland USA ( Read our full review here!), A had the time of his life, but E was a little too young/short (Most rides require a height of 36″ to operate) to fully enjoy it. We are SO EXCITED to be invited back to Diggerland this year, I can’t wait to watch E get the full experience this time!

Diggerland Big Chair

Diggerland USA is the only construction themed adventure park in North America where children and families can drive, ride and operate ACTUAL machinery. The park, which covers about 14 acres in West Berlin, NJ (20 minutes from Philadelphia), is comprised of over 25 attractions. The majority of which are real, diesel powered, full size, pieces of construction equipment. Each machine has undergone advanced engineering modifications which make them safe for the public, allowing children as small as 36″ to operate with little to no instruction.

Guests who visit Diggerland can drive full size backhoes, dig giant holes with real excavators, and operate just about every sort of construction machine you might imagine – from the skid-steers to the recently unveiled ARGOs, made famous by their amphibious qualities.

Along with operating heavy machinery Diggerland guests can climb one of the world’s tallest ropes courses, take an off road adventure in our military trucks, tackle the rock wall, spend time in the video arcade or enjoy one of the daily heavy machinery stunt shows performed by our operating team.

My husband may be the most excited for the newly opened attraction: DiggerlandXL, for adults! Operate unrestricted, full size construction equipment at Diggerland with 1 on 1 instruction from our heavy machinery foremen.

Welcome to Rockland!!

Posted on May 11, 2017 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Uncategorized .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.  All opinions expressed are my own.

If you have grown up in Rockland like I have, you have watched it morph from small hamlets into a much busier and more developed area. Sometimes I am nostalgic and long for the old Rockland with less traffic and more of a small town feel, and there are other times when I am thankful that it has become more developed because of the resources it has brought.

One such resource is the new Crystal Run Healthcare facility in West Nyack. RNYM wanted to make sure that we got a tour and found out what this new medical resource in Rockland was all about. Here are my findings:

Crystal Run

Crystal Run is not your local family doctor’s office.  It’s better.  It’s bigger, it’s modern and it’s updated.   It has many, many valuable resources under one roof.

Crystal Run has an Urgent Care:

This urgent care is rarely backed-up as they have professionals in the building who specialize in almost every medical avenue. If you come in and need a specific doctor, who is available, they get you in with a professional who specializes in your ailment.  Crystal Run also has labs and diagnostic equipment (X-ray, MRI, CT Scan, Mammogram, Cardiovascular testing, etc.) to get you answers right then and there.  When it has been determined that you may need one of these, you can be sent to an in-house specialist and get the answers you need- no more waiting and calling around to find a follow-up doctor.  OH YEAH- and with pediatricians on site, you can run into the urgent care facility with the kids and see someone who specializes in kids rather than an adult doctor.

Crystal Run can do Infusions on site:

They have an infusion suite for Chemo, Rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, etc. No need to drive SUPER FAR to receive this service, its located in the quiet back where you can receive your treatment in a dignified, restful area.

Crystal Run has a multitude of specialists under one roof:

I’m sure I will miss one but I will list them here and then link you to their page. Crystal Run has many specialists all under one roof (at the time of publication):  primary care physicians, pediatricians, cardiologists, dermatologists, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists, nephrologists, neurologists, OBGYNs, Oncologists and Hematologists, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialists, Podiatrists, Pulmonary and Critical Care Specialists, Rheumatologists, Urologists, Psychologists, and an Adolescent Medicine specialist. And then, their separate urgent care staff.  http://www.crystalrunhealthcare.com/find-a-doctor

At Crystal Run Technology meets personalized attention:

When you arrive for an appointment, they have a special computerized logon system- but if you prefer to go old school and speak to a human (like I do) they have those too, so you can ask questions, and be sure you cover your bases. So much thought has been put into the facilities that the doors are on sliders so that they don’t take up extra walking room.  The doctor notification system is all interconnected, and you can make multiple appointments in one day.  When you check in, all of them are notified that you are there.

Crystal Run has informative programs:

Crystal Run offers a multitude of educational programs for their patients (and you need not be a patient to register) from prenatal, to diabetes, to frequent health fairs. Instead of just treating your body, they focus on enriching your mind, and educating you on how to best care for yourself. See Calendar

Although I haven’t had a reason to head down to Crystal Run as of yet, I plan to make an appointment soon, I need a good dermatologist who can see me before 6 months. I am excited about the possibilities and what it means for the health and wellness of those living in my County.

As a professional home organizer my goal is to help clients have more organization and order at home. I know how overwhelming clutter and disorganization can make someone feel so I am understanding and sensitive to my clients needs. Clutter does not make me overwhelmed, it’s excites me. I know what I can accomplish and how getting rid of clutter and chaos can really change a person. I do what I do because it’s my passion and I love to help people! I never judge someone. I am not pushy for one to throw things away; I do encourage to declutter because it helps to stay more organized in the long run. Storage is great when organizing but I can also organize without it. So someone who is worried about their budget does not have to feel pressured to spend more on top of my services. The end results will still be the same- organized!
I offer packages and special rates often! I like to start with a free assessment, to see the space and chat more about what I will do and clients end goals. I work fast and efficiently. I can work with or without (with certain guidelines) the client.

My goal is to make the client happy!

I want them to feel less stressed and overwhelmed with their new organized home! 🙂

6.  Give her a home made keepsake…

Everyone knows I am partial to handprints- stop on by Jills Ceramics and made a one of a kind momento for the special women in your life.

7.  Give her the gift of time…

Every mom would love if someone had a cleaning service (woman/man-whatever) come in and give my house a good once over.  With how crazy busy life is I feel like I am always playing catch up and can’t get the whole house clean.  If I could walk in one day and just have it sparkle, it would just be amazing. :o)

We use and recommend Dutchmen Cleaning- Michele and her team are amazing!!!

Communion time is quickly approaching.  As parents we want to find ways to make the day special for our kids.  Here is a list of great local places that we compiled that offer just what you are looking for on that special occasion.  These places are so special they have got me daydreaming about my kids’ special days (slow down and hurry up!).

I will never forget how special I felt when I made my Communion and got to have my own bouquet.  Some churches are affiliated with a certain florist.  If yours is not, Orangetown Florist is a great option.  Joe can make you an array or bouquets, headpieces or boutonnieres and can take orders up to a week prior to the event.

Fevers in Children: Common Misconceptions

Fevers in Children: Common Misconceptions

Crystal Run Healthcare Pediatrician, Dr. Daniel Sinyor, discusses shared misconceptions surrounding fevers in children, along with why they occur.

A fever, defined as a body temperature higher than 100.4º F, is one of the most prevalent clinical symptoms managed by pediatricians today. And, it is one of the foremost causes of urgent care and emergency room visits, as well as a frequent cause of parental concern.
Measuring a Fever in Children

For young children and infants, a rectal thermometer gives the most precise temperature reading – often more accurate than ear or forehead thermometers. Digital thermometers, used in the mouth or under the armpit, are other ways to measure a temperature in older children.
Common Causes of Fevers

A fever alone is not an illness, but is a symptom of an underlying infection or illness and is a standard body mechanism that has helpful effects in combatting infection. When a child has a fever, the body’s internal thermostat, the hypothalamus, raises the “set point” body temperature to 100.4º F or higher in order to fight the infection or illness. By the time the illness resolves, the hypothalamus resets the internal temperature to standard levels, typically around 98.6º F.

When treating a child with a fever, pediatricians will often take into consideration the duration of the fever, overall condition of the child, as well as any other signs and symptoms that may lead to an underlying diagnosis. It is important to be aware that a fever indicates that a child has a working immune system and is in combat mode, fighting the infection.

With regards to infection and illness, the most widespread causes of fever in healthy children are viruses, which typically resolve with time and supportive care and not with antibiotics, since they are never indicated for viral infections. On average, fevers caused by viral illnesses will not last longer than four or five days.

During immunizations, it’s important to note that they can occasionally cause a low-grade fever within 24 hours post-injection. For infants younger than 2 months old, a fever (higher than 100.4º F measured rectally) may indicate a more serious infection and warrants an immediate call to your pediatrician or a trip to the emergency department.
Guidelines on Anti-Fever Medication

Typically, parents are concerned with the need to maintain a “normal” temperature when their child is sick. However, a fever is not known to compromise a generally healthy child. One of the main reasons to give a sick child an anti-fever medication should be to improve their comfort during the illness. An uncomfortable child may not be as interested in eating or drinking, leading to more serious complications, such as dehydration. And, most pediatricians would agree that an ill child who is sleeping and who has a fever should not be woken to receive anti-fever medications.

The two most common antipyretic (anti-fever) medications used to lower the body’s temperature and ease discomfort are ibuprofen (Motrin) and acetaminophen (Tylenol). While there is no major difference between the two in lowering a child’s temperature, Ibuprofen is generally not recommended for children younger than 6 months of age. Both, however, can have serious side effects if a child is given more than the recommended dose. It is critical that parents understand that the dosages for acetaminophen or ibuprofen are based on the child’s weight and should check with their pediatrician or refer to the back of the medication box to determine the appropriate dose for their child. Lastly, it cannot be stressed enough: remember to keep all medications in the household in a locked cabinet out of reach of the child. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is the single most common ingredient implicated in ER visits for medication overdoses in children.

There is no evidence that fever itself deteriorates the course of an illness, or that it causes long-term neurologic complications. Additionally, there is a misconception that high fevers, if left untreated, are associated with seizures, brain damage, and death. Febrile seizures are caused by a rapid rise in temperature—anti-fever medications do not prevent seizures in a child with a fever.

With a greater understanding of fevers, including causes, parents should feel more at ease when working with their pediatrician to provide quality care for their child during a feverish illness.
