Sabrina’s Murals and the Nursery of my Dreams!

Posted on August 29, 2016 by Ashley Carmichael Posted in Crafts and More Crafts, In the Home, Reviews, RNYM's Picks, Services, Specialty Items, Uncategorized .

-Ashley Carmichael

3rd baby, and finally the nursery of my dreams!

When I had my first son, we were living in a one bedroom apartment and I used an alcove as the nursery. When I was expecting my 2nd son we were living with my parents, so we used an extra room for his crib and dresser, never really making much of it. Now, as I am expecting my 3rd (and my last), I had the urge to have a ‘perfect’ nursery.  In doing so, my goal was to keep the baby room as budget friendly as possible. To accomplish this feat I planned to try to DIY, and recycle as much as I could.

Paint the room.

While my husband and I were debating on colors to paint the walls of the baby room, I stumbled upon posts from Sabrina’s Murals on Facebook. WOW. I was instantly in love with her work! So naturally, I jumped on Pinterest for ideas. I sent Sabrina a message and set up a time for her to come see the room and talk out ideas.

Sabrina is the sweetest, a total breeze to work with, she is always smiling! I explained loosely with some ideas I found online that I was looking to do trees, stars, and a moon – like a forest scene. She was very honest about design concepts, color schemes and how to make it work in the room.   Since the room is small, and the design I wanted was complicated, we decided only to do a small portion of the room to not over do it.

Her ideas were so spot on, I couldn’t resist booking her!

A few weeks later, she emailed me a sketch of the mural and I melted! It was exactly what we had discussed.  She arrived the next morning at 9am. Sabrina told me to come in through out the day to see the progress, but I wanted to wait for the big reveal! She finished around 4:30pm – seems like a long day to have someone in your house – but I honestly didn’t even know she was there!

The mural is PERFECT! I am so in love with the colors – exactly what I wanted. And the peaceful ambiance it brings to the room – is also exactly what I wanted. She even offered to come back after we had the baby and paint the babies name on the wall.

I find myself just sitting in the nursery when I need a few minutes of peace from the crazy chaos. I just love it.

Alphabet Frame

RNYM has this adorable alphabet on the wall in her playroom that I just love! (http://rocklandnymom.com/category/playroom-project/) So again I found myself on Pinterest working off this idea and found an idea for an alphabet that I thought would work. I ordered the wooden letters off of Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheMonogramCompanySE?ref=l2-shopheader-name – letters arrived quickly!) and Sabrina left me the paint samples of the teal colors from the mural so I was able to match the color of the letters to the trees in the mural.

IMG_5468

It was important to me to include the boys in the projects for the baby’s room to
help them feel included.  They loved picking the letters to paint – and we worked on letter recognition in the process.

I happened to have a large framed mirror lying around that was intended for a different project, but it was the perfect size to frame the letters. I matched the grey colors to the trees of the mural and painted the frame. I relaxed in the rocking chair and let hubby do the hanging – using small poster size command strips to hang the wooden letters.

Blanket Ladder
I love blanket ladders. So much easier than folding the hundreds of baby blankets you have, plus it doubles as decoration.

RNYM again to the rescue with a ladder she found on the side of the road. We (and by we I mean my wonderful Husband) sawed it in half, power washed, and sanded it down. I had left over paint from the walls and mural – easy! And it looks perfect in the room. Just by coincidence, the majority of my gender neutral blankets from my boys are teal and grey – perfect match.

My boys hard at work.

Closet Organization
Since the room is a bit small, we decided not to buy a dresser/armoire. I had hanging shoe organizers, and found baskets at the dollar store that fit perfectly in the slots. Great for holding onesies, burp clothes, tiny baby socks.  The baskets even fit great on the changing table.

Sonogram Photos
Photobarn.com was having a special promotion on free wooden photo prints (they do this often so if you are a photo junkie go sign up), and I was looking for some more wall decor…I couldn’t resist!  I ordered 2, used my sonogram photos, and they look adorable!

IMG_7288

The perfect gift from an amazing friend!
I knew she was up to something, she always is 😉 She had been asking me for a pair of jammies from when each of the boys were infants. I found a pair for each, that reminded me of when they were tiny and cuddly.

A few weeks later she surprised me with these amazing ELEPHANTS (which I happen to love)! This wonderful Etsy Shop – (https://www.etsy.com/listing/291624967/memory-elephant-handmade-elephant) took the boys jammies and sewed them into stuffed elephants!  Even embroidered their names on the feet. This gift could not be more perfect! Looking forward to having a matching one made for #3 as a keepsake.

The nursery turned out better than I imagined, I can’t wait for baby 3 to arrive!

Sacred Skin-Mother’s Day-Give Away!

Posted on May 2, 2016 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Contests, RNYM's Picks .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.  All opinions expressed are my own.

As you know I started seeing Carrie Michelle at Sacred Skin Wellness a while back for the terrible skin I have had my whole life.  I was going religiously for my 6 week appointments and was so, so happy.  I was relaxed (how can you not be when you are lying on that warm table with her massaging your face?)  My face  was glowing.  Clearer than it has ever been.  Then I slacked….

Things got really busy, and I had to cancel my appointment (RNYD was in the hospital).  Before I knew it, months had passed.  Then things got a little stressful (to move or add onto our current house) and before I knew it I had major skin issues all over again.

I called Carrie immediately and she fit me in right away.  She worked on my face for a good long time, following our usual regimen and then she suggested the Mother’s Day Special (see our Mother’s Day suggestions).

Mother's day Sacred Skin 2016

This was a really neat addition to the facial.  Carrie brushes on the eye treatment followed by the face mask (which is so neat, the brushes are so soft and soothing).  At this point it is liquid.  While you lay with it on your face it hardens and becomes a rubber mask of your face.  Then she peels it off.

Megan Facial Mask

When I left I was so very relaxed, my skin was soft all over again.  Within a week my real problem area (my left cheek) where I had broken out is cleared up and with the products that she suggested I use my skin has remained glowing.

I went ahead and made an appointment for 6 weeks so that I can continue down the road to healthy skin.  Carrie is truly a master at her craft.  The benefits of the appointment go so much further than my skin.  I leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.  What makes things better is the card we choose at the end. Last time the card was spot on, I wasn’t sure it would be this time.

The card I picked out of the box (without looking) told me to have faith in my decisions, and to trust in myself to make the right ones.  Exactly what I needed to hear since I was distraught about the choice to add on to our home.  The costs, the chaos, the investment… I really had a lot on my mind.

Thank you Carrie for helping me to relax (a VERY difficult task), and for helping me to feel confident (what 36 year old has breakouts).

Lightscapes- Giveaway!

Posted on April 28, 2016 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Day Trips, Out and about..., RNYM's Picks, Things to Do! .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.   All opinions expressed are my own.

The creators of the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze present an EXCITING, otherworldly experience of awe-inspiring illumination and all-original sculpture.

LIghtscapes photo

We visited this fabulous exhibit two years ago (read our review) and just cannot wait to see what they have added and changed.  The kids are an awesome age now (as was evidenced by our visit to the BLAZE this fall) so it will be even cooler!

Van Cortlandt Manor springs to life during this incredible nighttime display. Taking place over 20 spring evenings and perfect for all ages, LIGHTSCAPES is a walk-through, land-art experience.

Enter through a rainbow and emerge from a bubbly haze into a dreamland of curiosities spread throughout this historic landscape as far as the eye can see. Do some “shadow dancing” in front of an interactive silhouette wall and transport yourself into a world of wonder as you enter the brand new Bubble Tunnel.

Recycled elements serve as eco-friendly building blocks for all of our intergalactic flora and friendly woodland creatures.

State-of-the-art illumination highlights these amazing works of art and showcases Van Cortlandt Manor’s gorgeous natural landscape and specimen trees.

In the LIGHTSCAPES hospitality tent, enjoy spring-themed sweets (I can’t help but remember that amazing cider from the BLAZE).

Look for #LIGHTSCAPES on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

OR….. WE have 4 tickets to give away!!!  Like, comment and share for a chance to win!!!  Name will be drawn 4/29 and tickets are good any night during the LIGHTSCAPE run!!!

RNYM’s Mother’s Day Picks 2016

Posted on April 25, 2016 by RocklandNYMom Posted in RNYM's Picks .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.

Last year you all loved our list… so here’s our picks for 2016!

 1.  Give a Memory…

MOMS LOVE PHOTOS!!  They can be with her- or without (we recommend with as they become such a treasure).  Here are the awesome specials being run by our photographers!!

Honeybee Mothers 2016

SMM Mothers day 2016

Our other directory members have spring specials as well that you could use (See Here) but they weren’t specifically “Mommy & Me”.  They may however be a little more flexible on dates and times (and I happened to think that Jennifer Tesker’s spring set-up would be stunning for mom).  Don’t forget you can add a makeup application by our Denise at a discount and make Mom feel like a real celebrity!!!

2.  Order in…

Luigis Logo

(845) 735-9110

I enjoy going out to eat as much as the next gal…. but sometimes I can’t get it together, and I would just be more relaxed if I could stay at home and eat some great food.  Well Luigi O’Grady’s makes that a little easier with their awesome Mother’s Day menu.  Their food always delicious and affordable, there are some great choices on here.

Mothers day special Luigis 20163.  Take her out…

Maybe you don’t want Mom to have to clean up after supper and you want to treat her to a night out on the town……

Check out our list of Mother’s Day Dining Ideas!

4.  Let Someone Pamper her…..

Two of our UNBELIEVABLE Directory Members are running FABULOUS Mother’s Day Specials

Mother's day Sacred Skin 2016

  • Faces by Carrie

A great value- buy one and get one- pamper your momma twice!

4. Give her something to pamper herself at home…

The Norwex Olive Oil Salt Scrub is a remarkable organic-certified scrub that exfoliates, cleanses and moisturizes in one step.  Enriched with Dead Sea Salts containing 26 minerals, this scrub removes dry, flaky skin, providing a smooth finish and velvety feel.  Even better, it’s free from harmful chemicals, contains no preservatives or perfumes and is safe for all skin types.  Pamper the women in your life with beautiful skin before summer.  To order, visit www.jamiesilver.norwex.biz.
5.  Make headway on that “Honey do” list…

You know she has been asking for you to put up crown molding, put in a closet organizer, paint the dining room (wait no that’s me)… but every mom has a lit of things that she would love to have done around the house.  Chris Kissik has saved us a number of times, and does everything from hanging light fixtures to full renovations and additions.  Call him for a free quote, and mention RNYM for a discount :o)

6.  Give her a keepsake…

Profile-Shapes---NEW_large

Does mom have a favorite photo that would make a beautiful art piece?  I adore these silhouettes made from a special photo… kids, pups, wedding photos, photos of the kids (or family) walking away holding hands (a personal favorite of mine)…..http://vonjetsilhouettes.com/products/painted-silhouettes

7.  Give her the gift of time…

I don’t actually have a recommendation for this one, but I know I would love if someone had a cleaning service (woman/man-whatever) come in and give my house a good once over.  With how crazy busy life is I feel like I am always playing catch up and can’t get the whole house clean.  If I could walk in one day and just have it sparkle. :o)
