007th Birthday Fun!!

Posted on July 28, 2017 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Birthdays, RNYM Events, RNYM's Picks, We're Having a Party .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post that includes affiliate links to the products that I used for the Party.

This is the first year that (A) decided to have his birthday party somewhere other than at home.  At first, this was devastating for me as I love to create and make his parties special.  But, then I decided to find ways to make it personal and still add little touches.  This was especially difficult as the venue wouldn’t let me in any more than 15 minutes before the start of the party itself.

Decor/Favors

The venue provided the table cloths, and plates which was nice. That was one thing that we didn’t need to stress about.  We brought our own napkins and folded them to make them look like bow ties.  We also bought special forks to make them look “rich and fancy”.  For drinks we did martini glasses and added a sign that said “Shaken not Stirred”, as well as a large 7 that I added James Bond and the logo to.   A little crepe paper, caution tape, and enlarged copies of the invitation rounded things out.

I don’t love sending the kids home with tons of candy, so we only had rock candy and candy coins to send home.  They doubled as decor during the party.

“Go Bags”

These are the packs that spies keep locked up in their homes in case they need to disappear at a moments notice.  To make them I stamped some manila envelopes, then stuffed.  We displayed them in an old briefcase that my aunt had at home :o)

Since not all the kids every show up at once we had a few quick introduction activities planned.

Make a Bureau ID

First the kids took their bureau photos to use for their ID’s.  I used an Instax camera to take a photo that prints right there, and the setup was simply the wall, a chair, a pair of glasses and removable footprints on the wall.  I purchased the  ID Holders in advance and created a template for them to fill in.  They also had to put a thumb print on the front to make it official.  I used a washable ink pad for this.

Decode the Message

Prior to the kids arriving we set up the “birthday banner” on the wall with spaces missing.  We numbered the spaces for the remaining letters.  The missing letters were placed in numbered folders.  Corresponding folders were placed inside of BLACK balloons and blown up to make them look like “bombs”.  The party-goers needed to detonate a bomb, to find their number then place it on the wall to decode the message.

Cake

Vanessa Stahl of Sweet Spot Studio Cakes makes all of our cakes.  She is unbelievable.  I’ve been using her for years, and known her even longer.  She never ceases to amaze me. Not only are the cakes stunning to look at they are also so yummy.  We prefer butter cream, so you might be interested to know that the base of our cakes are not fondant- just the embellishments.

What is the Bubble Bus?

Bubble Bus Banner

It is often difficult to come up with ideas for entertainment at kids parties.  Especially when they are at varying ages.  Some may be too “young” for your whole crowd while others are too “advanced” for others.  This year (A) has requested laser tag, and (E) can’t go because she is too small, its forced me to come up with a plan b while the party happens for her, since I know she won’t want to be left out.

One amazing option out there is the Bubble Bus.  Everyone loves bubbles and proof of that is the reception that they received at our Egg Hunt this year.  We are always trying to think of ways to improve our events so this year we had the bubble bus come.  We were SO excited for the event, but the day of the weather was NOT cooperating.

It was cold and windy and we thought that there was NO WAY the bubbles would work out.  Well, we were super wrong (and happily so).  Peter came nice and early to get things set up, and rode around the site to find the best placement.  Then he set up special tools to make sure that the bubbles didn’t break right away and would still work.  We were still a little skeptical.

Well, there was certainly no need.  The bubbles were awesome, and the owner Peter is so lovely to deal with.  All the kids there (ages ranged from under a year to 14 years old) had fun chasing them and watching in wonder.  The music added a nice touch as well.  After the event we had SO many compliments on the addition of Bubble Bus, and several inquiries for parties.

Costume Swap for a Cause 2016- Thank You!

Posted on February 13, 2017 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Day Trips, Good Cause, March of Dimes, RNYM Events .

Disclosure:  This is an unsponsored post- all opinions expressed are our own.

Two years ago we brainstormed a way to use old costumes again (since we paid so much money for them) and came up with the Costume Swap for a Cause.  We raised $250 for charity (March of Dimes) two years running, and were so happy with it.  Since it was such a success we decided to build upon that success for this year.

Costume Swap Flyer

As a Media Sponsor for the March of Dimes we are committed to raising money for their cause.  Therefore this years donations benefited the March of Dimes.

Posted on July 28, 2016 by RocklandNYMom Posted in March of Dimes, Out and about..., RNYM Events, Things to Do!, Uncategorized .

RocklandNYMom was created (almost 3 years ago) to help parents and grandparents find the tools that will help them as they begin and continue their journeys with children and grandchildren.  We research list, and aim to provide useful information to all caregivers in our area.

We are always looking for new ways to service the caregivers of Rockland County and its surrounding areas, and when our own Ashley announced that she was pregnant the idea of our very first BABY SHOWER was born ;o)
