Fly Away…

(A) continues to love his drum lessons at The New City School of Music.  I recently told you all about his fabulous experience in earning his first TROPHY at his 6 month test.  Shortly there after came his June Performance.  Just as in the past he and Andrew worked to pick the right song to work on.  (A) made a list of 5-6 songs that he was interested in with RNYD, and then brought them in.  He and Andrew went over them and made his choice.

(A) really knocked his last performance out of the park.  He was a really new music student at that time, only 3 months in.  He played “We Will Rock You” and had a little trouble playing along with the music but kept great time.  We chalked that up to nerves, and he really really did well for such an inexperienced kid.  We were so much more than pleased, it was fabulous.

Andrew and (A) worked tirelessly to come up with “fills” to change things up throughout the new song, a new challenge since his previous number was a constant rhythm.  He also worked on playing along in time with the song, if he ever fell off track, finding his way back on his own.  This was a BIG step for him as a player.

Going into the performance, he knew he was ready.  Andrew helped him to feel super confident and we couldn’t wait to see his progress.  Well, we were impressed the first time this time we were blown away.  You would NEVER have thought he was a 7 year old child who had only been playing for 7 months.  He was professional and got through the whole song with no bumps.

IMG_7377

He looked calm and the most fabulous thing happened.  Andrew who we know loves what he does, and does it so well, who is so positive with (A), did the most amazing thing.  He rocked during (A)’s performance.  We happened to catch it on video and on film (to see the film check out our YouTube Channel), but he was really enjoying it, and having fun.  We thought we were proud, but man could you see the pride on his face.

Andrew is a shining example of all that is wonderful about The New City School of Music.  They are true professionals.  Their concerts are well organized, and pleasurable.  All the teachers are lovely and stop to smile.  The office staff accommodating and personable.  They welcome their students, have a lovely waiting room where siblings can color or watch a show while we wait.  They are so organized its unbelievable (like how they gave us a binder that had their whole year of classes laid out when we first registered).  I deal with a LOT of businesses and they blow me away constantly.

music school schedule

In fact, in June I received a communication that I was super surprised to receive.  The school recognizes that people go on vacation and are very busy over the summer, at the same time, they know that continuing with your studies is EXTREMELY important.  They sent out a schedule for makeups to be sure that all students could find a way to keep their lessons up during this crazy time.  It was because of this newsletter that I realized we couldn’t keep our regular lesson time because the kids don’t get off the bus from camp in time, so we were able to shift it to make it work.  I am very thankful that we did, it works out perfectly, and will also be great this fall.

The New City School of Music’s current promotion is sign up for summer music lessons and get your $55 Registration fee for FREE.  Which Expires 8/1/2018  As always if you give a call we appreciate if you let them know you heard about it here!!!

Check out our YouTube Channel and see the progress (A) has made from December to June just by watching his performances!! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3YqYL1SNZY88Koz5QlI_Ow

Dear Dads… You’re Welcome

Posted on May 8, 2018 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Opportunities, Party, RNYM's Picks, Uncategorized .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.

Ok, so, this weekend is Mother’s Day.  I know, I know, it came on so fast.  We at RocklandNYMom really value our parents (grandparents, caregivers), and know how much you put into everything that you do and so first of all, please accept our greatest PRAISE, and THANK YOU!  YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

That being said- I polled the Moms on our page to see what they really wanted for Mother’s Day, then went out and attempted to make it happen with some AMAZING giveaways that we are doing this week.  I am NOT able to provide for everyone but we do have 5 fabulous days of fun.  What do I have for you?  The list of items that were most requested by Moms, and where you can find them.  You’re welcome.

Surprise, surprise, Moms want to be PAMPERED.  I think I can speak for most parents in general, when I say that when it comes to doing something special for ourselves, we hesitate, but today we speak specifically about moms (so Dads no offense we will get to you next month).  So Moms asked for things that they should be doing for themselves (when possible) but are afraid to ask for:

  1. To have their nails done
This one I don’t actually have a recommendation for, there are SO many.  But I would love to be able to go monthly, with no GUILT to do this, especially with the warm weather coming, pedicures are a must.
  2. To get their hair highlighted (dyed) and cut.
I am actually giving one hair gift certificate away this week to Hair by Andrea www.hairbyandreanyack.com as well as an adorable tote, and a hair straightener.
Hair by andrea 2Not only can you make an appointment to go in and see Andrea- but she has a special for new clients you may want to take advantage of for your gift $85 for a full head of highlights and a cut.  She also makes house calls.

  3. For a Massage
I don’t have one to give away this time, but word on the street is that you can contact two FABULOUS places to book one:
Nellie Grossenbacher- Who can be reached on Facebook or text (201) 523-3907The Wholeness Center- https://www.wholenesscenterny.com/ who also has some other fantastic pampering services like facials with Carrie ElAmir (my favorite)
    Facial Progress
wholeness center mothers day specials 2018
  4. A night away
Here’s something neat, Moms asked for one night away, in a hotel, even a STAYCATION.  Cool idea if you ask me, send her with a friend or leave the kids with grandparents and go together.  Some me/alone/couple time is ALWAYS a great idea.
  5. Someone to professionally clean the house
I do actually have one to give away this week.  Michelle of Dutchmen Cleaning who cleans my house has kindly offered to give a Momma a break and given us an all natural cleaning gift basket with a gift certificate to give away.
    dutchmen-cleaning-card
Not our lucky winner?  That’s ok, you can call and give Mom some time off by calling (845) 742- 9592 and mention us, Michelle will give you $10 of your cleaning.
  6. A night off of cooking
Luigi O’Gradys has just what you need to pamper mom and give her some time off, be it breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner Michelle and her staff can make anything happen (if you give them some lead time).  Give them a Call: (845) 735-9110 **MUST CALL BY FRIDAY**

  7. Something witty
Our very first giveaway this week is from Shine Bright Co.  Its an ADORABLE gift bag with some super witty gifts inside.
Have a Mom or Grandma with a FABULOUS sense of humor?  Take a look and see what they’ve got!  https://shinebritecompany.com/Shine bright basket
  8. Professional Photos- Photos of Us
Moms are constantly taking photos, documenting EVERYTHING.  But we are TOO hesitant to jump in front of the camera. Also, it seems SO frivolous to ask for professional photos, but we would LOVE them.  We have a directory for that CLICK HERE.  Any of these talented photographers are ready and willing to document your special family moments.

In fact, two of them have donated gift certificates to pamper Mommies this week.

  10. MAD MONEY
And I don’t mean cash.  Know why?  People give me cash or a check and then I go and do something RESPONSIBLE with it.  Mad money, Mommas wanted a gift certificate to a home store, or their favorite clothing store, or jewelery store.  Somewhere NOT RESPONSIBLE, but guilt free.  Then, give her the child free time to go and use it- want to really make an impression?  Ask her to see what she got, and then pretend you ADORE it ;o)Pick her Poison and go with it.
Does she love to DECORATE? Then we suggest- Homegoods, Or Kirklands
JEWELS more her thing? Bourghol Brothers in Congers
Living with a STYLE MAVEN (that means she likes clothes)? Macys- Lord and Taylor- Nordstrom- Runway on the Hudson- or Ann Taylor (or the Loft) will do the trick!

If you are anything like me you ADORE Luigi O’Grady’s.  In fact, when I had my children my “push present” both times was a roast beef sandwich from then, brought to the hospital (yep).  I cater everything with Michelle’s help.  I’ve done Superbowl, Birthday Parties, Christmas, Breakfast- you name it Michelle and her crew have cooked it for me.  What’s better?  It’s all been done to rave reviews.

Well, now you can have you WHOLE EVENT planned and taken care of by Michelle and her staff at the Sons of Italy Blauvelt.  Yep that’s right they have become the exclusive caterers for the hall.

Sons of Italy Flyer

The Sons of Italy is a full service catering hall.  Fully staffed events, high quality food and service, bar service is all included.
Sons of Italy Photo 1

There are different packages to choose from and Michelle will work with you to meet all your needs as well as work with budgets.
She offers valuable insights with her extensive experience as well. I will never forget planning my first at home birthday party, I sent what I wanted over to Michelle and her response was, that’s all great choices, but its a lot of chicken, lets offer a little more variety.  She was SO right.  The guests adored the options available, and always ask where I got the food from.
I am so excited about this new development I could SCREAM!! From what I understand dates are filling up fast, so if you have something coming up reach out sooner than later.  I know because am looking to plan some fun stuff there for you all too ;o).
To speak to Michelle about  an event you can email her at info@luigiogradys.com or give a call at 845-735-9110.
STAY TUNED!!!

Something to Read- 5 Gift Challenge

Posted on November 28, 2017 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Christmas 2017, RNYM's Picks, Thoughts.., Uncategorized .

Something to Read poses a real issue.  Although there are kids (and adults like myself) who love to receive books as gifts, they are pretty few and far between.  Let’s face it though, for the kids its a necessary part of life.  We as parents are constantly reminded to read to with, or listen to them on a daily basis, and for good reason.

(A) is really a good reader now, but doesn’t really do it for “fun” yet.  He has learned that it is the key to accessing information and reads his LEGO and Lacrosse magazines, but not “books”.  RNYD and I are looking to change that.  Any teacher, reading expert, or child will tell you that the key to getting someone to read is to find something that they are interested in.  So we looked and hunted and then found the perfect set.  All the kids in his grade (including him) love and play Minecraft. While looking around we found this 6 book series dedicated to the game that doesn’t require you to actually play (we don’t give him a lot of time to do it).

(E) is another story entirely.  She does love to read but at 4 she doesn’t do it on her own yet.  I am looking for shorter stories that keep her invested and something that aligns with her ever changing and totally widespread interests.  She has girl superhero books she loves, and she also has princess books galore.  Thanks to a good friend she is not loving my little ponies so we got her this set.

KidStuff Coupon Books

Posted on October 4, 2017 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Food, Items, Money Momma, Reviews, RNYM Savings!, RNYM's Picks, Services .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.  All opinions expressed are my own.

As a school teacher and a parent I am more than aware that schools need funding.  What they receive from the government just doesn’t cut it.  Not with changing technology, consumables, and the numbers of attendees always on the rise.  We are so very lucky to live in an area where we have active PTA groups who work tirelessly to raise funds for the fun and educational events that are provided for our children.

Kids Stuff

This post is for the PTA parents who are looking for ways to raise funds.  KidStuff coupon books are an effective fund raisers that are ONLY for schools.  No other groups can sell them.  Additionally, 50% of the sale of each book goes DIRECTLY to the school.  That’s $12.50 a book!  No other fundraiser can boast that kind of return.

This means that if each child in a class sells just one, a class of 20 students earns $250 for their school, it adds up so quickly.

The other perk is that its a fundraiser that’s actually USEFUL.  I keep two of these books on hand every year.  One is in my car for when I stop somewhere and could use a coupon, and the other is in my desk where I do a lot of my shopping planning etc.  I almost NEVER make a purchase without checking the book first.  In fact, I have friends who sometimes come to my room to go through the book before they plan a trip or run to the store. This is especially helpful around the upcoming holiday season.

What kind of coupons can be found in the books?

  • Clothing Stores
  • Eateries
  • Theme parks

To see the whole list please visit:  www.KidStuffCouponBook.com

kidstuff coupon 1

To sell KidStuff books at your school you can contact them at 1-888-404-5437 option 1- or email info@kidstuffcouponbook.com .  As always we appreciate that you let them know that you heard about it here.

We are lucky enough to have 2 Kidstuff books to give away with this post.  To enter the drawing, please comment either on this post or on the facebook post and tell us why you are interested in Kidstuff books- whether it is for fundraising for your school or for the great savings inside.  The contest will end 10/6/17 and winners will be notified via PM or email.  Good Luck!!!

Annie Get Your Gun- Westchester Broadway Theatre Review

Last June Megan took little (E) to go see Annie at Westchester Broadway Theater and had a BLAST!  Not only did we give a great review, but we were able to snag a FABULOUS discount for our readers.  Well, we are back with another great review, and a discount code for you and your family too!!!  Read all about it- we are DYING to get back there (seriously (A) asks me EVERY DAY).

Annie Get Your Gun

At The Westchester Broadway Theatre

Music & lyrics by: Irving Berlin

Book by Herbert & Dorothy Fields

Directed & Choreographed by Richard Stafford

Musical Direction by Shane Parus

September 14 – November 18

Theatre

Getting there & Parking: Leaving from Nanuet, it took my family about 25 minutes to get to the theatre.  It was a straight jump onto the NY State Thruway, to the Saw Mill and a few turns and we were there.  Parking was so easy as well, since the theatre has its own parking lot.  Super convenient, especially with 2 anxious girls that were so excited about dinner and a show, there were no “are we there yet”.

Menue meal  dessert

Dinner: WOW – the choices where amazing.  We were able to choose from seafood, chicken, pork, prime rib and even a vegetarian option.  If you have picky little eaters, they have a kids menu available as well. When you sit, you are served a side salad to start, with a little corn muffin and roll.  Your waitress/waiter then comes by to see if you want drinks or any other types of appetizers (these are at an extra cost).  We stayed with the menu they gave us. I chose the Chicken Saltimbocca, with a baked potato and veggies. The meal was cooked to perfection, with no complaints from me.  Both my girls chose the Chicken Piccata, and said it was “super yummy mommy, can you make this one night” (1 chose to have 2 baked potatoes, and the other a baked potato and rice pilaf).  My husbands choice was the Prime Rib.  I was super worried that when he asked for it medium, since many places have a hard time making a prime rib to perfection, but once again the chef did not disappoint.  It was perfectly pink and my husband even mentioned that it was probably one of the best pieces of meat he has had (going out to diner).  Dessert was just as delicious.  They have an extra menu that you can purchase from, but we were happy with what the chef prepared.  Vanilla ice-cream over a ½ a peach, raspberry syrup, whip cream and a cookie.  When we stepped out at half time to stretch our legs, we saw some of the other desserts (and sadly regret not trying one of the other options as a bonus dessert). We also had some coffee and tea.

set

The Show:  The show was great.  Annie Get Your Gun is a play about crack shot Annie Oakley.  Annie (Devon Perry) is a quick witted, sharpshooter that wills her very first shooting competition against “the best shooter around” Frank Butler (Adam Kemmerer).  While they travel throughout the US, Annie and Frank form a bond and start to fall for each other.  But as stubborn as Frank and Annie are, they end up going in different directions.  Annie with Wild Bill and his show, and Frank with Pawnee Bill’s show.  Finally after months apart, they are back in the same City (New York City) when Sitting Bull, helps Annie realize how to win the man of her dreams heart back – by letting him win the competition.

The show was great for men and woman alike, as well as kids. It touches on friendly competition between a man and a woman, some action with the shooting competitions, and some romance.  The voices of Annie & Frank were amazing.  The notes that they hit and the range was simply impressive. The ensemble was just as amazing as the main characters with the dancing and singing and kept my girls entertained for sure.
