Family Friendly Paint- Available at Wallauer Paint and Design

Posted on July 8, 2021 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Health and Wellness, In the Home, Items, Reviews, RNYM Savings!, RNYM's Picks, Rockland Babies, Rockland Real Estate .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.  All opinions expressed are my own.

When RNYD and I purchased our first home together, like most others, we didn’t know much about home renovation.  Newly “house poor” we didn’t know that there was a difference in paints. What we knew was that we needed clean looks, on a budget. Now 17 years later we certainly do.  Instead of looking at the instant price tag, we look at the quality of the paint, the products and at how well it lasts.

That last part is super IMPORTANT.  Our house gets USED.  What I mean by that is that we LIVE in our house.  Anything we do to it, or put in it, needs to be made to last, to withstand two active, energetic kids, as well as two active, energetic Labs.  Things that show wear and tear quickly have no place in our home.  If this sounds like you and after a year and a half of staring at your walls and you are ready for a change, this is for you.

This is a photo of my actual messy paint cans from my lake house reno this year (LOL).

The ONLY interior paint we purchase any more is Benjamin Moore Regal Select- which is available at Wallauer Paint and Design.  While a bit more expensive than your typical box store brand paints, it is well worth it.  The coverage of this paint is beyond compare.  It is a premium-quality, 100% acrylic paint and primer combined with excellent hide, spatter resistance, and seamless touch-ups. It offers exceptional flow and leveling for a smooth application, and quick dry time.  So what does that mean?  Less work with better results.

Here is a photo of the master bedroom at our lake house, this is a VERY bright color that we had to cover.  We chose to change it to grey.
This was a fairly bold move.

As if that wasn’t enough being that it will save you time if you do it yourself, and money if you are paying someone to apply it, there’s more.

  • Stain release technology that is easy to clean with less scrubbing (I can vouge for this, I am always cleaning my walls- two kids two labs).
  • Mildew resistant coating
  • Engineered with Gennex Color Technology (a proprietary system that includes-long lasting vibrant colors, consistent colors, and better coverage a few of the benefits).
Did I mention it was beadboard?
Also- this paint is safe enough for my kids to do the painting (YES!).

Here’s the other biggie.  Regal Select is a No VOC product.  This is important to us because we try to be environmentally friendly in everything we do (see our solar panels), but the health of our kids and our pets is number 1.  As stated on the Benjamin Moore website “VOCs are Volatile Organic Compounds. When it comes to paint, VOCs are often added for better open time and freeze-thaw resistance and are emitted as gasses from liquids that evaporate as paint dries. Certain VOCs are harmful when inhaled and may pose indoor air quality concerns.”

Why am I super concerned about this?  Well, I first became concerned about such things when pregnant, I followed ALL THE RULES- like a soldier.  I learned that the paint in a baby’s room should have No VOC back then.  Once I had them, it became a bigger deal, because my (E) has asthma, even more important.

Where can you learn more?  Wallauer Paint and Design in Nanuet (that’s the Rockland one but if you are reading this from elsewhere, check out their website for the closest one).  Not only do they have this fabulous paint, they offer design services for those like me who have an idea of what they want, but aren’t sure how to accomplish it.

Wallauer’s design staff is committed to quality and service providing our customers with the newest in color schemes and the latest in design products. They give their customers the one on one attention they deserve to use these services, call or go online to make a virtual appointment or in the convenience of your home. The design team listens to their clients ideas and needs to design space that reflects one’s personality creating a functional and comfortable environment.

Wallauer is truly a one stop shop design center providing their customers with all interior design and home décor needs to fit any budget.  Not just color consultations (although that is where I would have to start). They have a new line of custom-made simple drapery and a custom inspired cellular blind program that can match your wall colors.

Once you get started, they’ve also got all the tools you need to complete the job too since they are an ACE Hardware.

Here are some current specials to help you get started.  A Buy one Get one Free Paint sample, and $10 off at ACE to get the job moving.  If you are purchasing a new home, there is a special place on the site to click to register for a free color consultation, a free design session, and a new homeowner package!

Oh yeah, and here’s the finished bedroom :o)

BASICally the Perfect INVITE!

Posted on April 25, 2021 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Birthdays, Events, Items, Party, Photo Obsessed, Reviews, RNYM Events, Rockland Babies, Services, Specialty Items, We're Having a Party .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post, all opinions expressed are my own.

I am a High School Teacher.  More specifically, a teacher of Senior students.  It stands to reason then that at this time of year (every year) I am very focused on Senior events.  All which culminate in the big event, graduation.

Last year the kids didn’t get much leeway in terms of celebrating.  This year, we are able to again have some gatherings, especially when outdoors, and distanced in some way.  Having just spent a year (give or take a few months) with so many restrictions, it’s no wonder that people may be doing things up a bit more than usual.

Well, it’s almost MAY and time to get planning.  I know that lots of people have made the switch to online invitation platforms, but I still LOVE a paper invitation.  In fact, if you follow me you know that I am VERY picky about my invitations.  I like them to usually be photograph invitations for that personal touch (also makes a nice memory), something you can really personalize (180 colors- and you can customize EACH element on the card).  In addition, I like the invite itself to be of sturdy card stock.  There is something about receiving a card or invitation in the mail, that is made of nice thick card stock.

So, as always I will share a favorite with you, and then explain why.  You need to check out Basic Invite.  Their invitations, announcements, photo graduation announcements etc are completely customizable. While looking around I found that they had some really cute nurse graduation announcement choices as well (quite a few of my students go into nursing)!  They are printed on sturdy card stock, attractive and fast, but there’s more.  There are 40 different color choices for envelopes (which are also peel and stick, thank goodness)- so your envelope can coordinate with your card!!

There are also these SUPER cool clear (we called them see-through) ones you can order!!!

Basic Invite has great customer service, and even a service where they ADDRESS the cards for you!  Don’t have time to upload them?  There’s also an address capturing service!!!  As a super busy working mom, this is HUGE!  This allows you  to share a link on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media to request your friends and family’s addresses. The addresses are stored in your account and can be selected during the design process. Basic Invite offers recipient address printing at no cost on all card orders!!

Then ANY TIME you are sending cards (think parties, announcements, holidays) you can click on the people you want to send the correspondence to and BAM, Done. For me personally, this is AMAZING, it’s hard enough to find time to design all of these things let alone sit and write them all out.

My 5th grader is also “graduating” this year.  So it’s even more on my mind.  We may do a small family event to celebrate for him (think immediate family BBQ), since he is missing so much. Well, it stands to reason that I would need to look at invitations or a grad announcement.  I was able to find a few that I liked, customize them just the way that I wanted, and then order SAMPLES to see which I would like the best, yep that’s right custom samples!  Changing colors and fonts as well as the style or card was super easy, you do not have to be super computer savvy to do it.  I even let AJ customize one (can you guess which one?).  Uploading the photos was also easy as pie.  I was given an ETA of one week and they arrived as promised.  You may have watched me unveil them on our social media stories.  Excuse the cell phone photo, I couldn’t help myself… The quality is impeccable, in fact, we have decided to make my new nephews birth announcements with Basic Invite as well.  ANNNNNND, we may have fallen in love with this Birthday Invite…

Let’s get social!  If you want to see more Basic Invite check them out on their social media handles: Facebook –Pinterest –Instagram –Twitter!

I (of course) have a discount code for you too!! Right now Basic Invite is offering 15% off with coupon code: 15FF51

Fall Wall Clock Update

Posted on September 24, 2018 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Crafts, Items, Photo Obsessed, Reviews, Specialty Items, Uncategorized .

Disclousre:  This is an unsponsored post.  All opinions expressed are my own.

If you’ve been following RNYM for a while you know all about my wall clock.  I am always looking for fun and interesting ways to display my photos (of which my husband says I have 2 million annually).  That’s how the clock came about.  It wasn’t long before that was simply not enough and I needed to change it seasonally.  I began by painting red frames for Christmas time, then was unsure about what color to do for spring and put it out there for you all to choose.  You went with purple.

This past fall I decided that just doing another color was too tame.

Instead I went looking for a fall shaped frame.  Easier said than done.  I ended up on ETSY after extensive searching and found a few people who made pumpkin frames.  I messaged each one and finally found someone who could do what I was looking for.  https://www.etsy.com/listing/557182219/pumpkin-halloween-picture-frame-4-inch-x

The frames were complete in no time and I was able to easily use the inserts on the back to cut my 5×7 photos to fit.

Here is my finished product.

The frames are custom to my liking, and can be for yours too.  One of the most attractive parts is they were also cheaper than going to the local craft store and purchasing a regular frame.

*RNYM was not compensated for writing this post we just wanted to share our idea.  Regardless, if you should choose to use our link please make sure to mention that you read about them here.*

Back to School Shopping at Macy’s Backstage!

Posted on August 31, 2018 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Items, Out and about..., Reviews, RNYM Savings!, RNYM's Picks, Uncategorized .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.  All opinions expressed are my own.

Like many other locals I was wondering what the new Macy’s Backstage was.  We’ve all shopped Macy’s for years as its been an anchor store in the Nanuet mall FOREVER, and also at the Palisades mall since it was built.  The great options, service, and availability of products at Macy’s is well known, but what is this new store within a store?

“The thrill of the hunt takes center stage as you discover your favorite fashion & home brands at show-stopping prices!”

Its the same great Macy’s that we all know in love, but with higher discounts on the same famous maker brands you’ve become accustomed to from Macy’s, as well as some new ones.  Knowing that it was a discount retail space, we were excited to hunt for some awesome finds.

The shoe section is right near the entrance so naturally little miss (E) had to hit that spot.  They had a nice selection in her size, so she tried a few, settling on two pairs.

The kids section at the Palisades Macys Backstage is over by a little toy section as well, that’s where we found (E)’s favorite item.  Little (E) needed earphones for school and they had these adorable little my little pony ones that she snatched right up.

Then we went through the racks to see what they had for back to school clothing.  This can always be an interesting afternoon with (E) who has her own sense of style.  At 8 (A) is also developing more of his own style, it was nice to watch him choose some staple pieces.

We found some cute stuff and headed into the dressing rooms.  The kids had fun trying on their items, and then they saw the signs on the wall.  They loved them!  We had to run from room to room to see what they said!!

At checkout we were given a scratch off coupon and saved $5!  We got 2 pairs of shoes, headphones, and 5 shirts for less than $90!!! What a bargain!!

Macy’s Backstage also has backpacks, home items, adult clothing, accessories, all the great items that the regular Macy’s carries, but at super low prices.  We are also lucky enough to have two locally to check out (Nanuet and Palisades- we went to Palisades).

GIVEAWAY

** As a special introduction to our readers Macy’s Backstage Palisades is giving away a $100 gift card to one lucky winner.  To enter- comment on this page or our social media post before Saturday 9/1 at 8 pm and tell us what you would use the card on (we’d also love a share and a like). Winner will be chosen at random via 3rd party website. **

Moms Gone Wild- An Unlikely Girls Day Out

Posted on August 29, 2018 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Health and Wellness, Items, Out and about..., Reviews, Self Care, Services, Shopping .

Disclosure:  This is an unsponsored post.  We had a noteworthy experience, and sometimes that means you just have to share.

**WARNING- NO NUDITY- BUT WE TALK ABOUT BREASTS AND BRAS HERE**

We went shopping… but not just any shopping. We went BRA shopping.  Yep that’s right, C, K and I went shopping FOR THE GIRLS.  Three of us friends were bitching about ill fitting undergarments and finally decided to do something about it.  Determining that there was safety in numbers we made a date and went.

Not only did we go, we went for the gusto.  SO three frugal (large chested) mommies who hate spending money on themselves, went to Nordstrom at the Garden State Mall to tackle over the shoulder boulder holders.  Yes this is worth mentioning because we usually shop at wherever has a sale on bras just like everyone else.

So a crazy unlikely girls day out ended up being one of my favorite mom dates ever.

We found the lingerie section (in the basement) and were at once greeted (perhaps we looked lost?).  The three of us aren’t skiddish- so we took a dressing room together.  Kathy went right to work asking who wanted to go first.  She measured all three of us and left.  Upon her return she had several different bras for each of us to try on.

Here’s what I love- she made note of some super interesting info about each of us that I am not sure everyone would pick up on right away- my love of earthtones, Chelsea’s love of the dramatic, and Katy’s sensibility- and brought bras that appealed to each.  There were of course bras that were sensible- but I gotta be honest, I haven’t bought a PRETTY bra in quite some time, and even my “sensible” purchase was pretty.

Some of them weren’t right, it was trying on and required some work.  But those that did.  Dude- I am a 34 DD and I don’t feel like I am wearing a BRA.  Also, the girls don’t look pointy, aren’t hanging out, nor do they cut into my shoulders or sides.

Yeah yeah yeah lets get down to the nitty gritty for those of you who don’t really wanna hear the romantic parts.  Like how I took dressing room selfies to compare how they looked in my shirt :o)

Facts:

  • Despite my greatest fears the bras were not that much more than ones I’ve purchased at Kohls.  I was certain they would be $200 a piece and they were not- more like $60-70 for mine the most expensive I considered being $84.
  • No tax it’s Jersey so “whew”.
  • The larger band sizes (40 and above) have less options, and although the overall fit is much better, they do still feel like a bra is on.
  • Didn’t love their panty selection- so even though I really wanted new ones to coordinate and go for the whole shebang, I am heading elsewhere to find some.
  • Splurged on a lingerie bag to wash them in so that I can keep them in good shape.
  • I learned valuable fitting and care information (shared below).  Guys- I’m 38 and I didn’t know any of this stuff.
    • You should have a minimum of 4 bras that you alternate, not including your strapless or special occasion one.
    • Bras should be replaced every year (whoops).
    • When you are purchasing you should be on the last hook as over time they will stretch and you will have to move it in.
    • They need a day to rest in between wears.
    • They should be washed every 2 wears on a normal day, more often in Summer and more like 3 in the Winter if you aren’t sweating.
    • Bras should be laundered in a lingerie bag, clipped together, on the gentle cycle and hung dry (yeah I’ve never done ANY of that).

We wore new bras out of the store (yep chucked the one I wore in right then and there) then finished our outing with a nice lunch at the mall.  Being super proud of ourselves we even shared photos of our new organization, and disposing of our old ones.

I can’t speak for everyone- but overall everyone is happy.  It was a nice afternoon with ADULTS, and we did something for OURSELVES.  I feel comfortable and pretty.  I constantly try to remind myself to do something for me every now and again and this fit the bill.  We DID promise to go again in a years time to be measured and purchase new as we should- focusing on the fun and scheduling more girls time.

I don’t care where you go- but go and get fitted.  Spend some time on you.  If you are anything like me you have extreme guilt when doing so.  RNYD constantly tells me to go ahead, to get what I need, to do something for myself.  I hold myself back from doing so most often.  This felt good.

**Dads if you’re reading this, you can help them by purchasing a gift card and taking the kids for an afternoon.  Heck, call her friends and arrange it.  Once RNYD scheduled a date for me and my BFF to go to a show and it was awesome, anther time he surprised me with a GC to my favorite salon.  I never would have done it for myself.**

Moms with larger band sizes- where would you suggest a momma who need a 40+ go for a GREAT fitting and nice look?  Also- Favorite place to get some cute (but functional) undies to coordinate with my new bras??? Love to hear your thoughts.

KidStuff Coupon Books

Posted on October 4, 2017 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Food, Items, Money Momma, Reviews, RNYM Savings!, RNYM's Picks, Services .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.  All opinions expressed are my own.

As a school teacher and a parent I am more than aware that schools need funding.  What they receive from the government just doesn’t cut it.  Not with changing technology, consumables, and the numbers of attendees always on the rise.  We are so very lucky to live in an area where we have active PTA groups who work tirelessly to raise funds for the fun and educational events that are provided for our children.

Kids Stuff

This post is for the PTA parents who are looking for ways to raise funds.  KidStuff coupon books are an effective fund raisers that are ONLY for schools.  No other groups can sell them.  Additionally, 50% of the sale of each book goes DIRECTLY to the school.  That’s $12.50 a book!  No other fundraiser can boast that kind of return.

This means that if each child in a class sells just one, a class of 20 students earns $250 for their school, it adds up so quickly.

The other perk is that its a fundraiser that’s actually USEFUL.  I keep two of these books on hand every year.  One is in my car for when I stop somewhere and could use a coupon, and the other is in my desk where I do a lot of my shopping planning etc.  I almost NEVER make a purchase without checking the book first.  In fact, I have friends who sometimes come to my room to go through the book before they plan a trip or run to the store. This is especially helpful around the upcoming holiday season.

What kind of coupons can be found in the books?

  • Clothing Stores
  • Eateries
  • Theme parks

To see the whole list please visit:  www.KidStuffCouponBook.com

kidstuff coupon 1

To sell KidStuff books at your school you can contact them at 1-888-404-5437 option 1- or email info@kidstuffcouponbook.com .  As always we appreciate that you let them know that you heard about it here.

We are lucky enough to have 2 Kidstuff books to give away with this post.  To enter the drawing, please comment either on this post or on the facebook post and tell us why you are interested in Kidstuff books- whether it is for fundraising for your school or for the great savings inside.  The contest will end 10/6/17 and winners will be notified via PM or email.  Good Luck!!!

There’s a Bully in my Brain- Book Review

Posted on July 26, 2017 by RocklandNYMom Posted in Items, Reviews, Services, Uncategorized .

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.  All opinions expressed are my own.

I love how many talented women (and men) we have in Rockland.  As you know, we love to support our local people and businesses. Kristin O’Rourke is no exception.  Not only is she a successful local business woman as the owner of In Home LCSW, PLLC, she has now added to her repertoire children’s author.   Kristin is a successful LCSW, and that’s no surprise because she is sweet, honest, and really the kind of person you would love to talk to about anything.

Bully in my brain Kristin Photo

She has just published her first (and I say first because I don’t see her stopping here) children’s book “There’s a Bully in my Brain“, Mascot Books, which was written to help children deal with anxiety.  Kristin sent us over a book to read and review.

During our book walk we found that, the book is attractive, with unintimidating photos that (A) quickly related to.  He noted that some pages had more words than others, but that it would be easy for him to read because the font was easy to read.  As he is now a reader, he is sometimes saddened when he can’t read a book because they have used a fancy font that he can’t decipher.  This made the chosen font for “There’s a Bully in my Brain” a major plus for him.

Buy in my brain 3

We read the book together and he didn’t squirm the way he does when a book is too lengthy or doesn’t hold his attention.  He stopped me to identify who the players were on the pages and made a few comments.  As we often read books and then discuss them to work on comprehension skills, this made a great opportunity to discuss the books content, and open up the door to speak about any anxiety he might be facing.  It also allowed me to get a feel for his opinion of the book.

First we discussed if there was a real person in the child’s head.  He understood that the “bully” was not a real person but the child’s inner dialogue, his doubts and fears.  We discussed our own inner dialogues.

One of the things that I really like about Kristin’s book is that the counselor who he speaks to gives him REAL advice for “Bullies” both in the brain as well as physical people.   (A) made the connection which I was very impressed with.  He said that standing up to bullies was the best way to deal with them no matter whether they are in your brain or presenting as real people who are trying to hold you back.  We had a great conversation about how standing up to our “bullies” makes us strong, and takes back the power from them.

See (A)’s Summary: Bully in my Brain Summary

As a parent, I must say, it was nice to be reminded of all of the stressful situations our children go through in a day.  It reminded me that many of the experiences that we take for granted as “normal” and “daily” are actually quite new, and nerve-wracking for our kids. It also helped me to think about how to best handle conversations if my children (both in school and at home) should share with me some anxiety.  I have heard so many people give the advice “to ignore” which is REALLY hard to do, impossible even, and doesn’t deal with the worry.

We have a LOT of books in our home, and I couldn’t be happier to add this one to our collection.  My (A) is a worrier, he’s sensitive, tends to be more passive, and senses so much that goes on around him.  It was good to have those conversations with him, as I am sure we will again.  This book would be a good addition to ANY family’s library.  I highly recommend it to parents, grandparents, school counselors, and anyone else who works with children.  Not only did we learn and discuss valuable information, but he enjoyed it, he has read it 3 times since and we didn’t need to talk about it every time.  He has read it to his little sister, (E) as well.  As a part of our normal reading routine it is the perfect vessel to speak about important issues without sitting and just having a “conversation”.  This discussion was comfortable and fluid, and (A) was happy to open up as he made “text-to-self” connections.

Bully in my brain 1

I cannot wait to see what Kristin’s follow up to “There’s a Bully in my Brain” is, as I know it will also be relevant, well written, and helpful.  So glad she shared this with us.

Kristin’s book is available at many different outlets the easiest of which I always find AMAZON (link here).  She is available for author visits, book talks and of course as a counselor through her company In Home LCSW, PLLC.

My boys LOVE books. Since they were babies we have encouraged reading and we make story time a priority each day.  Most of the parents I know do….

babywyattreading2

Originally I thought of these as great additions to our routine, but after having them I thought about all of the other possibilities, gifts, commemorations.. the possibilities are endless!!

    wyattreadingtosam

It took me forever to decide which books I wanted to get for the boys. There are many options that they would love!  Naming just a few – dinosaurs, fire trucks, race cars… oh my!  (see here for more options).  In fact, you can choose from picture books or board books (which fare a bit better in my house).

W is very excited for the upcoming arrival his new sibling, so I thought a perfect book for him would be “On the Day You Were Born.” And for my boat captain in training “Pirate Adventure”.

For each personalized book iSeeMe asks for information about your child. Name, Birthday, hair color, etc.  This information differs from book to book.  You can also choose a special dedication, and include a picture to place in the front.

W and S were so excited when they opened the box and saw their names on the cover of the books. “Mommy! Those are my letters!”  As they began to flip through the pages they both broke out into the silliest giggles as they saw their picture on the dedication page.

“On the Day You were Born” is a very sweet book about the excitement and joy around the world when a baby is born. It talks about the wonders of the earth, with a detailed glossary at the end explaining gravity, tides, and migration. Perfect for my little scientist who needs to know how everything works.

“Pirate Adventure” was super cute.  All about a pirates daily chores (yes they have chores too, a great family conversation), and their constant quest to find treasure, of course! Within the book they placed his name, our town, and our last name.
S laughed every time he heard the pirate being called the same name.

momboys2-iseeme

As we read through the book they would get excited as I turned each page waiting to hear their names again, and to find their “letters.”

In no time at all, both books have become a nightly addition to our bedtime routine. The boys request them nightly and  refer to them as “My Book”.  When I can’t find W or S, and things get quiet (usually time for panic)  I have now found them reading their books quietly in their rooms.

As an educator I must say that I am always excited to get my kids reading.  We have more children’s books in our home than you can shake a stick at.  We love books!  I was SO excited when Jennifer approached me about testing out a few Barefoot Books with my kiddies and reviewing them.  Yes!  New Books!  She asked me to choose a couple from the catalog and I found that I could not.  Every time I tried I ended up with an endless list of books that I wanted to read.  I eventually ended up just asking her to pic a few.  She admits that it was difficult for her too, but I think she did a fantastic job (so if when you order you can’t choose, just ask her she is a GREAT help).

The first book that she had us take a look at was such a perfect choice.  (E) is almost two and of course she is at a point where she is super sharp, and her language is exploding.  She is OBSESSED with books where you search and find things.  In this book “My Big Barefoot Book of Wonderful Words”, she points to things on the pages and we identify them for her.  After a few tries, she starts pointing and labeling them herself.  There is so much to look at, she sits often turning the pages and telling herself what things are.  It’s ADORABLE.Kids Read Together  Wonderful words

The second book “There’s a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea” was another great choice.  The kids both enjoy it because the tempo is very catchy.  There is also a “refrain” that the can repeat along with me.  For kids who are just learning to read and repeat along with you like (A) is it is perfect because when we come to that part, he points and reads along.  Afterwards he is so proud of himself that we all clap.  At its conclusion we often hear the words “again, or more” from both of them.  Even better?  If I get tired of repeating it (never) it comes with a CD in the back that can be used in a CD player or watched on a computer.

The third book “Ship Shapes” had me in stitches.  It turns out that this is an old favorite.  I had no idea that it was a Barefoot Book!!  (A) and I have been participating in the Pottery Barn Kids Summer Reading Program since he was 1 year old.  We enjoy going through the books together (we take them out of the library), keep track of those we have read, and love the trip to the store in NJ to pick up our free reward when we have completed the list.  Well, two years ago “Ship Shapes” was on the list.  He loved it then, and more so now because he was able to identify every shape, and show his sister too.  He just loves to show her things.

It is worth noting that each book is great quality.  The illustrations are super colorful and appropriate without being over the top.  They have stood up to (E)’s page turning (no small feat, we keep usually scotch tape on hand her books are well loved).  I am eager to read and experience more of these books.  I am especially interested in reading the books that are tales from around the world.  I really enjoy these types of books, and I love the opportunity to teach the kids about each culture and where it is when we read things like that.

In fact, Jennifer seems to have read my mind.  Her summer reading program through Barefoot Brothers Books gives me the opportunity to do just that.  She has a printable passport (see below) available with the rules of the program as well as graphics to send for when you have completed a book.  You can read the stories, keep track, learn about different cultures, and once completed earn a free book or a puppet (see official rules)!!!

The kids are really enjoying the books which says a lot.  They have so many options available to them, that when they reach for the same ones over and over again it really means something.  I love how much my kids love to read and Barefoot Books is a great way to grow and develop that love.
