Perfect Princess Party!

Posted on July 8, 2019 by Catherine Sheridan Posted in Birthdays, We're Having a Party .

Perfect Princess Party

When little E Turned 4 we just had to have a Princess party for her! I am actually 2 years late in posting it!!! (I’m kind of the worst, but these posts take a long time- you’ll notice I have a few coming out soon because I am on summer break). She loves EVERYTHING royal.

Dress ups made fabulous décor on a dollar store clothes line.

The cake was nothing short of AMAZING.

It’s worth noting that I don’t love “goody bags” I usually use props at our parties that the kids get to take home instead, I think that they will use more often a crown/tiara or a sword to play with rather than another bouncy ball, and a bag full of candy.  That’s just a personal thing.

Here are the ideas that I came up with to make this party worthy of a princess….

Everyone got a crown when they first arrived.

We chose a few of her favorite princesses and created stations for each one of them.

Tangled

At this station I put out a bunch of crepe paper and the kids took turns “tangling” eachother up like Rapunzel’s hair.  This was super fun and cute.  No links for the crepe paper although you can get it at any party store, I buy mine at the dollar store because its cheap and they always have tons of it.

Sword in the Stone

I made a big paper mache rock (this was a little insane and took too many man hours), then cut small holes in it and stuck the swords all around in the holes.  Each party participant had to pull a sword out of the stone, which we then took to slay the dragon (Malificent).  Guys- how cute is my Godson? xoxo

Sleeping Beauty

Malificent was our Dragon Pinata.  The kids took the swords that they pulled from the stone and used them to slay her.  When they did, they were able to pick up the prizes from inside and add them to their “goody bags”.

Aladdin

For the Aladdin station I called local carpet stores and found one that had old samples of carpet lying around that they let me use.  I let the kids choose one, we made a circle and played “Magical Carpets”.  When we were done the kids were allowed to keep their sample to play with at home, but any left behind were taken to the local dog shelter for a warm spot for them to lie on.

Sofia the First

Little E ADORES Sofia.  The flying horse derby is a favorite episode, so I made flying horses like Minimus for each attendee.  I put them into our play house and labeled it “Stables”.  The kids were able to go choose a horse and ride it around the yard like the flying derby race.

Princess and the Frog

An updated version of pin the tail on the donkey.  I had a large poster of Navid printed and tacked it to a tree.  I then used my silhouette to cut out card stock lips.  I blindfolded the kids, and had them “kiss the frog”.  If you aren’t feeling that ambitious (yeah I know I am a little nutty) Amazon does have a version Click for Kiss the Frog.

The Little Mermaid

I set up a water table because in July its hot as heck, and at 4 the water table is so fun.  I added a bunch of princess figurines including mermaids for them to play with, then take home.

I always have a photo opportunity or two so I put up a princess castle backdrop they could pose in front of.  I had made this one out of PVC pipe, but it was horrid, so I ended up buying (2) for my next adventures.

Have questions?  Need more info?  Just ask, always happy to answer them, that’s what RNYM is all about, making your life easier.  Something that would also have been a fabulous addition to our party would be if we had brought one of Mandas Enchanted Events talented characters to the house for some fun.

Graduation Photo Shoot with IC You Photography

The time has finally come, and I could not be more excited! Since this is my college graduation year, I thought it would be really fun to do a photo shoot. I reached out to IC You Photography to help me out. Here is my experience!

I usually am not one to do photo shoots I have only done one other one last year. But I thought to myself that this year is a big deal, and I want to make the most out of it. I had been talking with Isabella a few weeks before the photoshoot coming up with ideas to make this the best. We talked back and forth about different ideas, and what we would need to make this happen. I ended up bringing my friend to the shoot for moral support and to take some behind the scenes pictures.

I honestly have to say I never had so much fun before at a photo shoot. This was a shoot like no other, but enjoyed every minute! It took over 2 hours and turns out we got over 100 pictures which is so crazy but I’m happy (poor Isabella has to go through and edit those, I don’t envy her). During the shoot we would talk about ideas of what to do how to pose. But not only that we had conversations, and laughed. Isabella is an amazing human and so glad I had the opportunity to work with her. A lot of the shots we came up with on the spot but that’s what made the shoot so fun, and turned out some great pictures.

This photo shoot was really important to me because it it shows me that I did it! My college experience was not the most ideal, but I made it through. School isn’t my favorite thing to do.  It took a lot of grit and hard work to get to where I am.  These photos are a lot more than just graduation photos, they are memories for my family and I. A testimony to the fact that I was able to persevere and make it through despite great obstacles.

Thank you IC you Photography for making my photoshoot so much fun and making memories forever! This has been a great experience and I am so happy that I did it!

Having some fun designing their own ponies

Pony Party at Sparkle Up was the recent special event, girls and boys were able to decorate their own pony. Also get their hair done, nails painted and face paint. At this event we also had a couple boys who enjoyed getting cool hair- sparkle tattoes- pony decorating and having fun!

Some very pretty and very handsome hair styles!

Painted nails and hair prep

At the end of the session we had a fun photo shoot where the kids got to show off their awesome hair styles and the pony they had decorated. Thanks to all the parents who let me capture the memories! I think these events are so fun because it is a day out and its really cool to see each Child’s personality through there hair style, and the activity that we do at the event. So for example it was really cool to see everyone’s creativity when they decorated their pony. What a fun day!

Theater is a culture and art all over the world. Of course NY is the most famous all over the world known for their stunning Broadway shows. Unfortunately seeing shows in NYC comes with a big price tag. Local theater is a great way to have some fun, support the upcoming actors and actresses as well as supporting the community. Sparkle Up in New City holds kids parties, does hair cuts and style for both boys and girls (even grown ups), and holds many events. Don’t forget to check out their Facebook page for updates!

The Doll and me Style, was the recent event at Sparkle Up. Similar to American Girl Doll in NYC (but at a fraction of the cost), the girls got to bring their dolls and they both could get their hair done.

Nails were also a dolly and me experience.  Sparkle Up uses special nail polish on both girls and dolls that is safe for them.

The girls also got to dress up in fun costumes and got to get some awesome sparkle tattoos.

There was also a fun photo shoot where the kids got to show of their make over as well as their dolls. The event was really fun, and it was really awesome to see all the smiles. So thank you to all the moms and parents for giving me permission to take photos! It was a really fun afternoon to see the girls dress up and coordinate with their dolls

.

The next event for Sparkle Up! is…

Sunday 3/10/19 from 12-1:30 pm

Decorate a pony to take home, have your hair done “pretty Pony” style, paint your nails and have your face paint done too!! Cost $25 per child call 634-0140 to register!!

MY Be You Photo Shoot Experience

Posted on February 13, 2019 by Catherine Sheridan Posted in Photo Obsessed, Photography, Reviews, Uncategorized .

Disclosure:  This post is unsponsored and this article is written through my own POV as well as opinions.  This is a very personal post for me to write, but I am happy to share my story about coming out of my shell.

By: Catherine Sheridan, RNYM Intern

I have never been a person who likes to be the center of attention, I am kind of shy, and not too out going. As every kid does as they grow up they face insecurities, and I too have many insecurities. I have grown out of most of them but some are still relevant. Jennifer Tesker who is a directory member here on the site has a photo shoot called “Be You”. I first saw it on Facebook and was like wow this is so cool. Then (A) and (E) did the shoot as I was blown away, and it got me thinking, what if I could do this. So I reached out to Jennifer and asked her if adults were able to do the shoot as well, she said yes and sent me samples of photos she’s done with adults. I looked them over and discussed with my mom if I should do this. We both agreed and I booked my appointment. Honestly I was so nervous but really excited at the same time. I brought my friend with me for support, and then it was finally the time to start shooting.

I honestly did not know how to feel or act or what to do. But Jennifer was so nice and walked me through the whole thing.  I really ended up having so much fun. For a minute of my life I had no insecurities, no worries, I was able to have fun and be my self. She showed me some of the photos she captured and I was blown away, honestly could not believe it was me. The whole experience really changed me and how I think of myself. I owe it to Jennifer Tesker Photography for helping me see me how others see me and letting me be me without being scared. These photos are honest- which is a nice change to some of what you see out there.  It’s nice to know that someone thinks you are pretty, just being yourself.  Its fun to watch the kids do their silly things, but it was really nice as an adult to feel that way too.  Not forced to be something I am not.  No fancy clothing or makeup, just me and the camera.

Flyer For this years booking-Mention Little Tor Elementary and give back to a local school too!
