While recently at The Clover Market an awesome craft fair in Ardmore, Pennsylvania with my sister in law, I was inspired by many of the “shabby chic” items for sale. She was inspired to “Chalk Paint” some furniture and I focused on the details, home accessories. One of the vendors had painted and distressed some mason jars. I love how the internet is a great place to find ways to do things. I found a BLOG that showed how people were painting and distressing mason jars using chalkboard paint. I like the mason jars so I bought a few to distress, but then started thinking…
I have been looking for an 8×10 or 11×14 chalkboard for (A) and/or (E) to hold in pictures for their first days of school (yeah I saw it on Pinterest). I had not found anything that I liked enough to purchase, but then I started thinking, couldn’t I just make one out of a picture frame using the same idea as the mason jars? Maybe it’s been done before but I couldn’t find it online, so I purchased a black wood frame (hoping that black meant that I could skip the step where I have to paint the frame black with chalkboard paint and get right to business). I painted the frame the colors that I know I am using for (E)’s christening and started distressing! By the time all of the paint dried it took me about a week to complete, but it was really only about 5-10 minutes at a time, which is very doable with kids around.
I absolutely love the way it came out! I cannot wait to do some more frames, that I would like to be distressed (since good frames are not easy to come by and very expensive when you find one you like). Since this chalkboard is clearly meant for (E) I am going to now make one for (A) that he can use. Additionally, I have another little project in mind that uses the same technique, I will tell you all about it when I get a chance to start it… check back another time to see what else I have in mind!!!
