(A) is 3 and goes to pre-school in the mornings 5 days a week. I am lucky because I have a care giver who is home with my children during the day. Like many other parents I am concerned that (A) get the basic skills that he needs to be successful in the future. My sister who is a kindergarten teacher said to me the other day, make sure that he can color and cut. So I went searching for something for us to do together as “homework” since I want to set a routine early. I found two things that I think are fantastic.
These can be cut and colored :o). Two birds with one stone.
First in print then we will do script (yes I still believe this is an important skill, and they do not focus on it in school any longer.)
“HOMEWORK” TIME
Its important for kids to have routines, right? I believe in this, almost to an extreme, but I want to set routines early so that its not a shocker when my kids are 8 and older that they have to sit and do homework (I was never much of a homework doer, but have seen the err of my ways as a teacher).
When I get home from school (A) has already done school and lunch and nap time. When I walk in I feed (E) then we sit at the kitchen table with a fun snack and do “homework”- either color and cut or penmanship. Its special time with me and him and no baby (which he really likes). We are having a good time and learning too! :o)
